What I do if my emails getting hacked and how to prevent it ?

Having your emails account hacked is horrible, but here’s how to defeat the criminals by using cast-iron passwords. These days, email breaches are becoming increasingly common for enterprises. It should really come as no surprise that email hacks are on the rise. As businesses go digital, email data is becoming increasingly valuable for hackers.

Email accounts are used for anything from personal emails to friends to sending important letters to your bank or someone important. Some people have nothing better in their life but to look into other people’s emails account for money, pleasure, or personal reasons. They can put your privacy and even your life at risk (on an extreme scale), so here are some steps on how you can protect your email like the government does.

Have a secure password

The humble password is not as secure as it used to be, but choosing a strong password can help.

The longer the password the better. The more characters there are in your password the longer it will take for a hacker to break it, making it less likely they will continue trying.

Use a mixture of numbers, lowercase and uppercase letters and special characters (punctuation) as it increases the complexity of your password and increases its strength.

Do not use real words in your passwords. The majority of hacking attacks cycle through dictionary words, which means if you use a real word in your password it is more likely to be broken.

The best passwords are a randomly generated strings of characters numbering 16 or more. Of course, that makes them very difficult to remember.

 Never use a password twice.

By using a password manager you are only as secure as the password to your password manager.

Protect your computer.

If your computer is wireless or does not use any antivirus software and is used not just by you, your email address and password is completely at risk.

Using wireless isn’t the safest form of using the Internet, as it can be hacked by people using network sniffers.

If you have no other choice, make sure you have a WPA key on your wireless Internet connection.

You can change or add one by going into Connections -> Your Wireless Network -> Wireless Map -> Your Router -> Properties -> Device Webpage.

Then click Wireless Security Settings and then “WEP/WPA Key”.

It’s best to have it set using a WPA key as it’s the latest version of security.

In addition to passwords, a different type of security mechanism called two-factor authentication is becoming increasingly available.

Some hackers compromise email accounts in order to attack your friends or contacts. They use your email address to send spam or phishing emails attempting to trick them into thinking you need help, buy something or into giving up personal information.
