How to Enable and Manage AutoSSL in WHM/cPanel

As a recent news, the new version of Chrome will mark all HTTP sites as ‘Not secure’ and prominently highlight this in the URL bar in an effort to create a more secure internet. Hence the necessity of SSL on domain names is vast increasing in the internet world.

Silicon House has introduced Auto SSL feature in High End Reseller Hosting which allows you to enable FREE SSL for any of the domain under your Reseller Account. However, this feature is not available in Nano, Economy or Unlimited Packages.

Hence for existing Resellers we are glad to inform that the AUTO SSL feature can be enabled by upgrading to special packages at minimal cost.

What is AutoSSL?

AutoSSL is the solution to one of the biggest pain points that exists for every cPanel & WHM user: SSL installation and renewal. With AutoSSL that pain goes away. There are no more forms to fill out, and no more certificates to manually copy into place. Once you enable AutoSSL, your websites are automatically secured with a free.

This interface allows you to install domain-validated SSL certificates on domains setup in cPanel accounts. It also allows you the ability to view the log files and select the users that you can secure with AutoSSL.

When installed on a web server, a certificate will activate the padlock and the HTTPS protocol to allow secure connections from a web server to a browser.

• AutoSSL will only include domains and subdomains that pass a Domain Control Validation (DCV) test, which proves ownership of the domain.
• AutoSSL does not secure wildcard domains.
• If the corresponding www. domain does not pass a DCV test, AutoSSL will not attempt to secure that www. domain.
• AutoSSL will not attempt to replace pre-existing certificates that it did not issue.
• Certificates that cPanel, Inc. provides through AutoSSL can secure a maximum of 200 domains per certificate (Apache virtual host).

There are two types of SSL available :

1. Auto SSL
2. Other Paid SSL [eg. positive ssl, commodo ssl, wild card ssl]

1. It is easy to install for the domains hosted in your account. It is suitable for all basic websites, blogs etc
2. It provides automatic domain validation and ssl gets installed instantly.
3. It has validity of max 90 days after that it has option for auto renewal which has to be chosen in the cPanel.
4. It has no Warranty.

Other Paid SSL [ eg. positive ssl, commodo ssl, wild card ssl ]

1. It requires validation process to be completed before you install the ssl. It is suitable for eCommerce and business critical sites which requires more trust.
2. It requires domain validation as a must before issuing the ssl. In case of EV certificates it validates business also.
3. It will have validity of max 1 or 2 years. After that you need to renew it manually.
4. It comes with warranty as per the ssl which is chosen.
