Best Practices for SSL Certificates in Linux Reseller Hosting

Linux Reseller Hosting allows you to implementing SSL certificates on your site, you want to do it in the best way possible. Take a look at our best practices list below to see what you should (and shouldn’t) do while setting up your SSL certificates.

A site that has been correctly set up using SSL should fall into two categories:

[1] The site has its own dedicated, not-shared IP address

[2] The site shares an IP address with other sites that are SSL-enabled

When you add a domain to your hosting account, you must choose a type of IP hosting for the domain. One of these options is a dedicated IP. A dedicated IP address is wholly devoted to your domain and all of its resources will be dedicated to the domain’s use.

Consequently, having a dedicated IP address gives your domain more power.

E-commerce has grown at exponential rates in the past decade, with consumers quickly recognizing the convenience of purchasing goods online and making secure and private transactions.

People trust that the websites they use to track finances and make online purchases are secure and legitimate largely because of Secure Socket Layer (SSL) certificates.

SSL certificates verify that the provider is who they claim to be and also indicate secure connections between personal devices and company websites.

Purpose of SSL certificates ?

  • SSL is essential for protecting your website, even if it doesn’t handle sensitive information like credit cards.
  • Any computer in between you and the server can see your credit card numbers, usernames and passwords, and other sensitive information if it is not encrypted with an SSL certificate.
  • When an SSL certificate is used, the information becomes unreadable to everyone except for the server you are sending the information to. This protects it from hackers and identity thieves.

How do I get SSL Certified ?

In order to install the SSL certificate for a particular domain you need to follow the below procedure,

1) Need to allocate the dedicated IP for the domain
2) Generate the CSR certificate for the domain from where the domain is pointed (means where the dedicated ip is allotted)
3) Need to get the SSL certificate for generated CSR
4) After which You need to install the SSL certificate in the server where the domain is pointed

Installation of SSL certificate on shared IP is not allowed as you are under shared hosting environment. It will affect all the domains present in the server including your other domains also. It will be removed automatically. In our hosting we are not providing the SSL/TLS manager option for security reasons.

Use of dedicated IP :

*You can View your website via its IP address
*Use it for generating SSL
*Ensure faster response during periods of high traffic load.

Once you have bought the dedicated ip,the ssl option will be enabled in your cpanel of the particular domain. If you want the ssl option for all the cpanels under your reseller account, you can buy the dedicated ip for your whole reseller account.
